What you can expect
Meet your licensed tour guide in Piazza Duomo at n. 19/20 (just outside the “Sagrato della Misericordia”) and make your way towards the privileged, side entrance that will allow you to skip all the lines and access the Duomo Cathedral without any wait.
Listen to your guide giving a thorough explanation about one of the largest churches in the world, dedicated to the Virgin of the Flower as a reference to the lily, the symbol of the city. Find out how the numerous different styles encountered in the building bear witness to the changes of society over the long period of time elapsed between its foundation and its completion. Then, walk towards the end of the aisle and get to marvel at the view of the magnificent, world-famous Brunelleschi’s cupola and the frescoes representing the Last Judgement; prepare to remain speechless while admiring this 3600-mq pictorial cycle painted by Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari, two of the most renowned artists of the 16th Century.
Keep following your guide, descend the stairs on the south side of the Duomo and explore the archaeological remains of the city’s ancient cathedral, the Basilica of Santa Reparata; the entrance is limited and most visitors do not get the chance of actually walking on them, so make sure not to miss this unique opportunity!
